11 days and counting…. will be back in Cebu for work for the start of another school year which means I am on my own again to train…uh oh.
That means I need a run plan set before going back so at least all I need to do is follow and set my goals on that marathon race. Still deciding on which marathon to join this October…Subic? Sundown? QC International Marathon? All that will be decided on so I can train with more direction. Incidentally, there will be the first ever Cebu Marathon on Jan. 10, 2010 so I’m actually thinking of training for that one too.
*edit: B is making my training plan as I type! wheeee! =)
Admittedly, I DO get de-railed when I don’t have people to train with. Yes, this one is a social being and you’ll understand when you go on an LSD run (long slow distance run).
Imagine, it’s 5 am and you’re all alone in the road, just running, people still asleep, an occasional dog will bark, a rooster might crow a good morning, a few cars, motorbikes or jeepneys pass you by as the sun slowly wakes up. I actually like the time when everyone is still fast asleep and the only thing you can hear is your heart thumping, your breathing, the pounding of feet striking pavement (I know we shouldn’t pound when we run but it sounds more dramatic yes?)
That montage will continue on for maybe three or four or even FIVE hours, with the only difference being, multiply by 2 the number of people, dogs, cars, bikes and jepeneys that you see every hour, plus, of course more pollution and sun thus more heat.
I get very lonely on LSD runs especially at the 3 hour mark. Even if I don’t really talk when I run (ask Keti, I was eerily quiet when we did our 35k) I still need at least the physical presence of a runner friend who can commiserate with you when you suddenly feel the need to blurt out “I don’t know why we’re doing this!?!” and will ignore that and simply say “we can do this!” or shout expletives and just hang in there, with you. Needy? Maybe. I have to learn to do an LSD by my lonesome self since marathonwise….you don’t run with anyone but yourself anyway and see friends at the finish line. Time to add this to my to-do list…
So there. Just rambling. The thought of getting de-railed with training is making me dream about it. I figured whenever I dream about something, it usually means I’m worried about it big time.
Obsessed much? Yup.
Another thing…have you been to Abellana track lately? Can somebody please fix it?? Runners can’t even really run without fear of tripping over the cracks and wrinkles all over the surface (yes, there are wrinkles on the track, notably on lane 1 fronting the entrance bleachers). And on rainy days, puddles form on the surface, which means it is uneven.
Does anyone else know of any public track in Cebu City proper which is in better condition than Abellana?
A little birdy told me that the Sacred Heart School is building a track oval and might open it to the public…..any truth to this?? I hope so! Will be willing to pay a good amount for the entrance fee (more than the 10 bucks that Abellana asks for) if they do open and it is an honest-to-goodness decent track oval. PLease please please please????? Will copy B and her drawing mantra…meaning if you draw it, it will come hahaha. If it works for sunny skies…might work for track ovals too.

hello runtintin…
there’s a takbo.ph runner currently based/training in cebu. his name is carlo (http://drumandrun.wordpress.com/).
rod
i pressed the “SUBMIT COMMENT” too fast. =)
anyways… just in case you’re looking for a run buddy. contact him. run addict yan. =)
thanks! might see him on the road training too…will shout out a hello =)
hi there runtintin,
i’m the guy rod was talking about.
i see that you need a running buddy when doing your LSDs. maybe we can run together one of these days – i’ll be in cebu until the end of year or so. let’s run to the airport and back to cebu city!
check out my blog for a sample of my running routes in cebu, particularly in the tag “running in cebu”.
and last i checked, the abellana track oval is still in shambles – well, the inner lane, at least. but the outer lanes are just fine. i’m not sure if sacred heart school has a track oval, but maybe we can check it out together when doing long runs.
carlo – the mactan bridge is a great place to do hill workouts…plus security wise..it’s well lit and there is a security guard at the very top….i’ll see you on the road in cebu!
The Cebu City Sports Center (Abellana) will be fixed right after the Sinulog. This means February 2010. This is good news for Cebuanos who’ve long waited for the 15-year-old track oval to be repaired. BTW, hope you join the CEBU CITY MARATHON on 01-10-10. Website is http://www.cebumarathon.com. Thanks!
Yay thats good news!!! Finally something to train for! Will look forward to the newly renovated track early next year.
